Trucks Recalled Over Detaching Steering Wheel Risk

November 7, 2018

According to the recall notice posted on the NHTSA website, there is an issue with the steering wheel which may cause it to loosen. If that happens, “the steering wheel may detach from the steering column.”

The NTSB report states helpfully; “If the steering wheel detaches, there would be a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.”

2019 Freightliner Cascadia and 2019 Western Star 5700 tractors may be affected. In total 622 units are being recalled.

Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) will be replacing the steering wheels as necessary for no charge. To find out if your truck has been affected, you can call DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA’s number for this recall is FL796.
